Clarification

The issue is not just the closure of the pool it is also the grab by DSE to take more of the riverbank for revegetation and reduce facilities in the caravan park. We have all seen how well the riverbanks are generally maintained, blackberries, tobacco weed etc.

  1. Its a complex issue and we need to share what we know about it on this blog - please add your thoughts and knowledge sooner rather than later!

The Warburton Caravan Park/Pool is a great example of how our community has worked to set up community assets that have a ripple out benefit to all of us.

Our visitors and 'second' families who stay at the Caravan Park during the holiday seasons make a major economic contribution to the Upper Yarra, our towns and our culture - the vibrant mix of cafes and retail shops we have in Warburton alone rely on a combination of local and visitor trade.

Lets face it - the impact of state and federal governments & the private sectors inability to regionalise work opportunites means that our small towns are in part 'commuter communites'. There's a lot of people having to travel to work. This impacts on our ability to keep spending locally, keep our cash in our local economy, and to be actively involved in our community.

I love living in the green wedge & being surrounded by the bush. However I believe that a basic point of sustainability is the creation and retaining of local enterprise and local job creation wherever possible.

Any redevelopment/reworking of the Caravan Park/Pool area will need to find the balance of being both environmentally and economically sustainable.
